Campcraft & Campsite Etiquette
Preparation
Check you have all parts of your tent.
Pick a suitably flat and sheltered site.
Don’t pitch under trees.
Have access to clean water supply.
Clear ground from stones and twigs.
Keep 3 metres from other tents.
Peg out the rear of your tent
Using 2 pegs, peg out the rear of the tent in the black strap anchor points at each end.
Push pegs into ground at 45° angle pointing away from tent.
Use your hands to push pegs into the ground – NEVER use your feet!
Insert poles
Insert poles into pole sleeves.
Store empty bags in your pockets.
Peg out front of tent
Pull the tent forward as tightly as possible.
Using 2 pegs, peg out the front of the tent in the black strap anchor points beside the door.
Peg sides and front door strap
Anchor the sides of the tent by inserting a peg in the orange elastic loops at each side and rear.
Using 2 pegs, anchor the front door tension strap to avoid tripping over it BEFORE you go inside the tent.
Clip and hook inner tent
Open the outer tent, and take the inner tent inside.
Unfold the inner tent inside (especially in wet weather).
Attach the inner tent to the outer tent by inserting the clips first at the rear, then at each side of the tent by the poles at the back and the front.
Hook the inner toggles into the rear of the tent. There are 7 toggles - 3 down each side plus a centre toggle which is a different colour to the others.

Peg pole straps and guy lines
Pull the tent tight and insert pegs into each of the black straps by the poles.
Finally, peg the guy lines out
2 at the front side by the front poles.
2 at the rear side by the rear poles.
1 at the rear.
Where to pitch your tent
Near edge of field, not in the middle.
On flat land, where possible.
Clear of stones, branches & sharp objects.
Sheltered from the wind, but NOT under trees.
Keep a space of 3 metres between tents.
Care of Kit
Please look after the tents.
Don’t let your tent bags blow away. Place pole/peg bags inside tent bag & keep tent bag inside tent.
Take care with the poles not to bend them beyond their normal elasticity.
Use hands, not feet, to put pegs into the ground.
Leave your boots outside the tent, don’t walk inside wearing your boots.
Avoid walking on the fabric of the tent.
Check you have all pegs (18 in total).
Campsite Etiquette & Hygiene
Be organised when you get to camp.
On arrival, check in at the site reception/owner.
Split the tasks within the team – put the tent up, fill up water bottles, set up the stove.
Have a hot drink on arrival, then set up to cook evening meal.
Be considerate to other camp site users.
Please do not congregate around toilets & washing up areas.
Please leave camp site and communal areas clean and free of litter and waste food. Set up a litter bag attached to your guy rope.
Don’t tip waste food onto ground or in sinks.
Check you have all kit – including pans, handles & tent pegs.
No running or ball games near tents please!
Wear boots/alternative footwear around the site, no walking bare-footed or in socks.
Please be quiet after 10pm and before 7am.
Be considerate to other campsite users, especially families.
Packing away in the morning
Be organised – work as a team.
Allow about 1½ hours to get ready.
Clear ALL items and rubbish out of your tent. Make sure it is empty.
Pack inner tent away first.
Keep inner tent DRY. Fold wet sides to wet sides; dry sides to dry sides.
Loosely put guy lines into pockets on the tent.
Check you have ALL pegs and poles.
All kit has an ID number on. Check you have the right bags for your kit.
